CAL PREP® 59/ Technical Data

DETERGENT IRON PHOSPHATE

CAL PREP® 59 is a mildly acidic liquid compound for one step cleaning and phosphate iron, steel, and aluminum surfaces. CAL PREP® 59 contains special activators for use in immersion tank or steam phosphate applications.  It can be used as a pretreatment for painting and produces an amorphous iron phosphate coating on steel that will be blue to gold iridescent in color. The blended synthetic detergents give superior wetting, which allows excellent cleaning.  It penetrates, lifts and emulsifies most soils and lubricants, allowing the phosphate coating to be deposited quickly and uniformly.  CAL PREP® 59 is supplied in a state of buffer most common to that required to coat the majority of steel types.

When applying CAL PREP® 59, by immersion, the phosphate stage should be followed by a fresh water rinse and a final sealing rinse.  It is important to have good, fresh, cold water rinsing after the CAL PREP® 59 cleaner/phosphate treatment.  Following the cold water rinse, rinse the work with a heated sealer.  This step will greatly enhance the corrosion protection provided by the CAL PREP® 59 treatment.  Following the heated seal, the work should be dried as soon as possible by indirect fired oven or forced air.
